§ 01 — The work
We are looking for an editor who can hold a 6,000-word feature in their head and tell a writer, with reasons, why paragraph fourteen needs to move. Most of what we publish is reported longform, op-eds under principal bylines, and project work like annual publications and policy reports.
The role is hands-on. You will commission writers, edit substantively (not just lightly), shepherd fact-check and legal where needed, and place pieces in outlets where placement is part of the engagement. You will also write — we expect our editors to publish a few pieces a year under their own bylines.
We do not run a content mill. We publish slowly. Editors on this team work on fewer pieces, more deeply, than the industry average.
