— Always open
The roles below are always open. We do not run hiring sprints or quarterly windows. When we find the right person, we move. If you would do this work whether or not the listing was up, we want to hear from you.
How we read applications
Right now, every application is read by me — Jonathan, the studio's founder. As we grow, applications will be read by a senior on the relevant desk. Either way: not a screener. If your work is right for the role, we'll be in touch within two weeks. If it isn't, we'll tell you, briefly and clearly.
§ 01 — Premise
The best people in this work are harder to find than they should be. We try to make it easier.
Mission-driven media has a hiring problem. The talent is routed toward agencies that pay better and toward newsrooms that pay worse, and the middle — where the best of this work lives — is unevenly staffed.
Our answer is to keep every role open year-round, pay competitively for senior contributors, and read every application a working journalist or producer would actually send. We do not require cover letters. We do require the work.

§ 03 — General
Some roles will be filled project-by-project rather than as standing staff: fact-checkers, illustrators, transcribers, photographers, score composers, motion designers. If you are senior in one of these disciplines and want to be in our network as the studio grows, write to us.
§ 04 — How we work
Based in Montréal. We'll be hiring distributed across Canada and the U.S. as the studio grows. Quarterly editorial weeks. Travel is paid; calendars are protected; meeting time is the exception.
Every project is led by an editor or producer with final say on the work. Account managers do not edit. Clients do not approve cuts.
We turn down work that requires speed at the expense of the form. We ship fewer projects per quarter than peer studios. We do not apologize for it.
Salary bands are public. Bonuses are tied to project completion, not to revenue. We do not negotiate down from posted minimums.
Full health coverage for staff. Twenty days off plus the last two weeks of December. No performative summer Fridays.
You will be credited on every piece you contribute to. Your name will appear in the masthead. We do not ghost-credit our team.
